Farmers Sensitization Programme on Citrus Decline at Wakhro Circle
June, 2019, Wakhro, Lohit: Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Lohit an one day “Farmers sensitization programme on citrus decline was organized by KVK Namsai ICAR RC for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar, sponsored by DDA cum PD ATMA, Tezu at Mawai village under Wakro circle on 12th June, 2019. The programme was chaired by Shri Prince Dhawan (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Lohit and Shri Sunny K. Singh (IAS), Assistant Commissioner, Lohit, Dr. Manish Kanwat, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Namsai, District Agriculture Officer Shri D. Burman and District Horticulture Officer Shri S. Rahman, DTO, Smart Village Team, GBs, Lohit district. Mrs, Madhumita Sonowal Bora SMS (Plant protection), and Ms. Bidyapati Nangom SMS (Agrometeorology) were attended as resource person from KVK Namsai. The programme began with the felicitation of the dignitaries. Deputy Commissioner Lohit stressed on adoption of scientific management practices to protect the citrus declining. He called the citrus growers of the circle and ask them to join their hands with the KVK Scientist and follow the scientific instructions and management practices and help to develop the circle as landmark of the state. He assure to all the farmers that all kind of administrative support will be provided to the progressive farmers.He also assured that frequent meeting camp will be organized with farmers to strengthen the farming status of the district. Shri. Sunny K. Singh highlighted different scheme available for the farmer which benefits to all the farmer of the district. He also mentioned that group farming will form through Farmers Producers Organization (FPO) to ensure better income for the producers. He wishes to make this Wakro circle as a Centre for excellence on citrus. In the technical session, Mrs. Madhumita Sonowal Bora gave the detailed lecture on citrus decline and their control management practices, she also discussed the important insect, pest and diseases occurs and their management in citrus. She also demonstrates the preparation of Bordeaux mixture and its application on citrus. Ms. Bidyapati Ngangom SMS (Agro meteorology) spoke about Agro-met Advisory Service and how it will be helpful to all the farmers. Farmers had asked several queries about citrus, production, marketing, processing and others important issued with KVK scientists, Agriculture department officers and Horticulture experts during farmers scientist interaction. Dr. Manish Kanwat said that the KVK Namsai welcome all the farmers for any support from the institute even though the farmers of different district. He demonstrated the procedure of compost making with available biomass on farmers field and also distributed the decomposer pathogen to all the farmers by the gracious hand of Shri. Prince Dhawan, Deputy Commissioner with the motto to preserve the nature and avoid the chemicals. Altogether 100 farmers were attended the programme successfully and took the pledge to make the circle and district as landmark in orange production.
